Information for Authors
The Brazilian Journal of Biometrics (BJB) is an open-source and open-access scientific journal that publishes original research papers, discussion papers, and reviews. BJB is a double-blind journal and has no article processing charge.
The general objective of the journal is to publish original research papers that explore, promote, and extend statistical, mathematical and data science methods in applied biological sciences. BJB is the official journal of Brazilian Region of the International Biometric Society (RBras).
Requirements
All submissions must be done electronically using the OJS Web interface https://biometria.ufla.br/index.php/BBJ/login.
Only papers written in English using the style and the templates (.docx or .tex) available here will be considered available here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Dt1GX0gFRKahsMWuTRL3X74qoF064T99/view
All new submissions must provide the following attachments:
- PDF manuscript in BJB style, without the information of authors and affiliations to ensure double blind reviewing process.
- Cover letter addressed to the Editor-in-Chief suggesting at least three potential reviewers.
All revisions must provide the following attachments:
- PDF manuscript in BJB style, without the information of authors and affiliations, where all amends on your manuscript are highlighted.
- Cover letter with a point-by-point response to the reviewer’s comments, including a description of any additional experiments that were carried out and a detailed rebuttal of any criticisms or requested revisions that you disagreed with.
Paper structure
The paper must be no longer than 20 pages and be structured in the following sections: title, author(s), abstract, keywords, introduction, material and methods, results and discussion, conclusion, acknowledgements and references. The manuscripts should include page number.
Author(s): All authors must be added to the system in the article submission process, it is not possible to change the authors after acceptance of the article. The scientific affiliation of the author(s) must be: Department, University, City-acronym of the state, Country. The e-mail address of the corresponding author must be informed. Please also provide the ORCID number of all authors.
Abstract: It should indicate the content of the paper, and should provide the main conclusions. It should not exceed 200 words. References should be avoided.
References: The journal adopts the ISO 690:2010 formatting style for references. All references to other papers, books, etc., must be given at the end of the paper. They should be numbered but should be listed in alphabetical order of the first authors´ surname. Citation of papers published in congress, conferences and similar proceedings should be avoided.
All references must be cited in the text using the command \citep{} for inline references such as (Rodrigues et al., 2022), and using the command \citet{} for text references such as Zhang & Yi (2022) or Rodrigues et al. (2021). When citing two or more references in the text you can use (Deng et al., 2021; Huang, 2021; Rodrigues et al., 2022). We strongly suggest that the authors to use the latex template and to include their references in a bibtex file. Please be sure that you run the BibTeX to be sure that the references are properly compiled.
Provide too the DOI of the articles in list of references!
If the authors do not use the bibtex file, they should include the references in the end of the document with the same style as in the examples:

The submissions that do not follow these strict instructions will be returned to the authors.
Review Process
The review process for the manuscript follows a double-blind approach, ensuring anonymity for both the authors and reviewers. The editor-in-chief appoints a section editor who selects at least two reviewers with expertise in the field. The review consists of the assessment of the scientific quality of the manuscript. Reviewers are instructed to evaluate the manuscript for scientific rigor, clarity, and relevance. Reproducibility is emphasized, and reviewers verify that results can be replicated before recommending conditional acceptance. This rigorous double-blind review process maintains the integrity and quality of the Brazilian Journal of Biometrics' publications.
The possible editorial decisions are:
Reject Decisions
- decline (editorial reject),
- reject (after review, possibly after revision)
Revise Decisions
- resubmit for review (will go back to both reviewers and editor),
- revision required (will only go back to editor)
Accept Decisions
Revisions, in any state of the review process, must always be submitted together with a point-to-point reply to the points made by reviewers and editors.
If a revision is not received back from the authors within three months of a revision being requested, the paper will be considered to be withdrawn.
If a conditionally accepted paper is not brought into final form within two months, the paper will be considered to be withdrawn.
Publishing Process
All acceptance decisions for manuscripts are contingent upon the final version that follows the style and reproducibility requirements of the Brazilian Journal of Biometrics (BJB). It is the responsibility of the author to ensure that the manuscript meets these requirements. If accepted manuscripts fail to meet the specified criteria, they cannot be published.
